The Women's Big Bash League match between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades on Sunday will see a unique milestone being achieved in Australian cricket as for the first time ever, two female on-field umpires will take charge of the game.

The two umpires will be Claire Polosak and Eloise Sheridan. Interestingly, Polosak was also the first female umpire to have an on-field role in a men's domestic match in Australia. The 30-year-old also became the first female on-field umpire to officiate a final in the history of ICC tournaments, when she officiated the 2018 T20 World Cup final in the West Indies.

“It’s fantastic for the sport and hopefully it creates more awareness for females who are thinking about umpiring, that the opportunities are there for them to take,” said Polosak.

Meanwhile, Sheridan added that it was an exciting opportunity and also a message for others that there are opportunities in cricket other than playing.

“Claire and Eloise have established themselves as two of Australia’s leading female umpires and it’s fantastic to see all their hard work continue to pay off,” Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“This is another great step forward for cricket, where we’re continuing to strive towards our aspiration of being Australia’s leading sport for women and girls.

“On behalf of everyone in Australian Cricket, we wish them the very best for this match and look forward to seeing them on the field.”
