New Delhi: The original ICC World Cup trophy, which was touring India ahead of the World Cup, seems to have been damaged during its stay in Kolkata.
The lower gold ring of the World Cup trophy was detached from the wooden base when Nimbus received the trophy from the ICC.
An official of LG Electronics, global partners of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and organisers of the display, however, denied any damage though a senior staff was seen putting back the ring.
"We later displayed it before the Victoria Memorial. It was kept there for an hour. And, the Cup is now going from the city in the same condition it arrived in the morning," an LG spokesperson said.
ICC's policy does not allow anyone except the Official Trophy makers to repair or polish the trophy.
Therefore LG received the trophy with the lower ring detached from the wooden base.
The Cup arrived in the city after touring New Delhi. The trophy will now be displayed in Mumbai before it is taken to the Caribbean.
