Even though veteran fast bowler was part of playing XI in all four games, he only bowled 59 overs since Indian spinners pretty much did the job on their own.

Sharma became the only fast bowler after legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev to represent India in 100 test matches. He picked six wickets in the recent Test series againstEnglishmen. Now a Test specialist, Sharma last played an ODI for India as far back as 2016. Besides the 100 Tests, the right-arm medium pacer also became only the third Indian fast bowler to pick 300 or more wickets in Test cricket. Kapil and Zaheer Khan are the other two.

Sharma has 303 wickets to his name at an average of just over 32. He has 11 five-wicket hauls and has once picked over 10 wickets in a single match.

India defeated England 3-1 in the four-match series and secured a place in the final of the World Test Championship. India will now face New Zealand in June at Lords.

England started strongly in the series winning the first match by a margin of 227 runs. India came back all guns blazing in the second match at Chepauk and then there was no looking back. Indian spinners Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel dominated the English batting line up sharing 59 wickets among themselves. Axar, in particular, was deadly in Ahmedabad where he picked two consecutive five-wicket hauls.

Ashwin, too, was at the top of his game, picking 32 wickets and at the same time entering the elite 400-test wickets club. India and England will next square off in the T20s. The five-match series will be played in Ahemdabad.
