Zimbabwe's Ervine wants to play for Eng

London: Zimbabwe's Sean Ervine has expressed his desire to play ODIs for England. The 29-year-old played five Tests and 42 ODIs for the African nation from 2001 to 2004 before deciding never to play for them again following disagreements with the cricket governing authorities there.

For a player to be eligible to play for England he has to complete a four-year residency qualification and Ervine, who plays for Hampshire, will fulfil the requirement come this April.

The left-hander has also signed with the Bangladesh Premier League side Duronto Rajshanti.

"I want to do well in the BPL and then play well for Hampshire and if I can do two good years then hopefully get a call-up," Irvine told BBC on Thursday.

Ervine continued to feature in the domestic matches in Zimbabwe, but to be eligible to play for England he had to cut short his first-class stint in strife-torn nation.

"It was more of a mutual agreement, me playing first-class cricket out there, but I've had to come back to try to qualify for my eligibility," he said.

"This is my last year and hopefully I am going to fulfil that. Basically it is April to April for four years and you have to do 210 days in the country for four years. Then I qualify for England and then hopefully go on for selection," he added.

Ervine is also very excited about the Bangladesh Premier League which starts February 10.

"It's very exciting, they are trying to copy the IPL and is another opportunity for me to impress and hopefully get into something like the IPL later," he said.

Almost a year ago, Ervine had expressed his desire to play for Zimbabwe again but was talked out of it by Hampshire.
