Boje may face police bouncers again

New Delhi: Former South African cricketer Nicky Boje was finally interrogated by the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Tuesday in the seven-year-old match-fixing case.

But Boje, who is in India to play the Indian Cricket League's Twenty20 tournament near Panchkula in Chandigarh, may have to face the police again.

Accompanied by the South African High Commissioner, Boje was interrogated for about an hour and a half, and these are the possible questions that the spin bowler might have had to field:

*Did Hansie Cronje ever approach you directly with an offer to fix matches?

*Did you know about the involvement of any other player in match-fixing?

*Is there any other South African player involved in the match-fixing racket?

And the grilling sessions may not end for Boje with this one. "We will surely be interrogating him again in future in this concern," indicated Satyendra Garg,
Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch.

Tuesday's interrogation comes a year after another South African player, Herchelle Gibbs, was interviewed in the same case during the Champions Trophy. But nothing much was revealed on the match-fixing saga.

Boje and Gibbs, found guilty by the King's Commission inquiry in South Africa, were slapped heavy fines, but got away with just six-month bans each.

It's been seven years since the match-fixing scandal came out in the open, and yet the case is nowhere near completion. With various loose ends of investigation in London and South Africa and the fact that the Delhi Police is yet to file the chargesheet, it's highly unlikely that the case will reach a logical conclusion in the near future.
