IPL spot-fixing case: SC adjourns hearing, framing of charges to July 25

The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing in the IPL spot-fixing case to July 25, when the apex court will also pass orders on framing the charges against those accused in the case that has maligned Indian cricket.

Test cricketer S Sreesanth and his team-mates at Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals - Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, along with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel, are among the 42 accused in the case.

Special Cell of Delhi Police had charge-sheeted all the accused, but six of them are absconding.

Additional Sessions Judge Neena Bansal Krishna had on May 23 reserved the order on framing of charges in the case and had asked the counsel appearing for the accused to file their written arguments, if any, by June 6.

But on Monday she said that the order sheet is not prepared yet, because of which the hearing and framing of charges had to be adjourned. The court also said that it will seek clarifications, if any, in the matter.

During the arguments on framing of charges in the case, the police had referred to telephonic conversations among the accused to buttress their claim that they were involved in match fixing and betting.
