Rave party: Rahul faces arrest, BCCI wants proof

Mumbai: BCCI has said that it will first like to examine every bit of information about Rahul Sharma being tested positive for drugs before reaching a decision on penalising the Indian cricketer. Police sources, however, have said that the cricketer faces arrest.

The legspinner, along with South African allrounder Wayne Parnell, has been tested positive for consumption of drugs at a rave party held in a posh Juhu hotel in May this year during IPL 5. Sharma was present at the party with Parnell when it was busted by the police.

The Indian board, however, has said that it would not jump to a conclusion without examining the proof.

"I don't know why everyone is in a mood to execute Rahul Sharma without even going into the details," BCCI president N Srinivasan said. "The BCCI will first procure each and every bit of relevant information and then study them before deciding on the course of action," he added.

But the Police sources says all those who tested positive will soon be arrested.

"Of the 44, two females tested negative, while the rest are positive," Deputy Police Commissioner Pratap Dighaokar said. All those who tested positive would face arrest, another police official said, adding that the procedure to arrest would start soon.

Sharma, who played for Pune Warriors India in IPL 5, is currently with the Indian team that is on a tour of Sri Lanka. That raised the question whether Sharma will be dropped from the squad now, which is all set to play an ODI on Saturday.

Sources, however, say that if "an unfortunate situation like this" does arise, then the BCCI will look at the "saftey net" first and possibly pull the player "out of the tour".

The Mumbai Police said that 42 of the 44 people arrested have been tested positive for drugs. Of these, 35 tested positive for cannabis, three for both cannabis and cocaine and four for cannabis and MDMA.

Rahul Sharma had, at the time of detention, denied taking drugs at the party.
