Nagpur wicket to play 'perfect host' for final Test

Nagpur: Winning a series against Australia is not easy. So it's only natural that if your team holds a lead in the series, ensure it doesn't slip away. And Nagpur is preparing to do exactly that: play the perfect host.

It seems the new BCCI president Shashank Manohar has made up his mind to give India the best possible chance to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Ponting's men will surely not be accorded the same welcome as they were four years ago when they conquered the Final Frontier.

The new Vidharva Cricket Association stadium at Jamtha has virtually no history to suggest what sort of a surface it will turn out to be. However, a closer look gives an insight into the mysterious surface, suggesting the VCA is out to make amends this time with a slow wicket with low bounce. Plenty for the batsmen while more back-breaking stuff for the bowlers.

Media reports in 2004 had suggested that the Nagpur curator had gone against the wishes of the then Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly to prepare a greentop at the insistence of the then VCA chief who now heads the BCCI. Ganguly has moved on from then to now being honoured among the greats on the dressing room walls. And it seems like even the BCCCI chief doesn't mind mending fences this time.

The chief curator of Vidharva Cricket Association Pravin Hinganikar says: "Basically it was a different ground. But it is prepared according to the directions of the BCCI this time."
