Gaurav Kalra, News18 Group Editor (Sports), believes the selectors chose to give Rishabh Pant a run in the limited overs side due to India’s recent middle order woes and that while he is unlikely to keep wickets considering how important MS Dhoni still is to the side behind the stumps, his attacking mindset could see him played as a pure batsman to shore up the middle order. Pant’s impressive form in his recent Test outings against England and Windies earned him his maiden call-up into the Indian ODI squad for the first two matches of the five-game series against Windies starting on October 21 in Guwahati. Pant has replaced Dinesh Karthik in the squad. In his 28 match List A career so far, Pant has scored 838 runs at an average of 28.09, with one century and five half-centuries.
