Woolmer says he can't be blamed

Jaipur: The news of Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif failing a Pakistan Cricket Board internal test has come as a body blow to the team.

Pakistan play Sri Lanka in the ICC Champions Trophy on Wednesday at Jaipur.

Speaking to CNN-IBN's Himanshu Singhal, Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer said that the team would put the controversy behind them and play good cricket.

"Yes, unfortunately two players have tested over the limit and the PCB have withdrawn them from the side. It is unfortunate for us as Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif are two very fine bowlers. Hopefully it may have come from the treatment that they have been taking. Maybe be it came from one of the drugs. But the bottom line is that we have to deal with it. It is an issue that we have to put behind us," Bob Woolmer said.

Himanshu Singhal: Bob how disheartening it is to lose two of your premier fast bowlers just before an important match?

Bob Woolmer: Well I think it is disheartening but on the other hand we have won with other bowlers as well when they were not fit. We are not despondent about it. We have to play good cricket and perform as best as we can.

Himanshu Singhal: Bob who is to be blamed for all this controversy? Are you ready to accept a part of the blame?

Bob Woolmer: No why should we look for the blame. We have set up structures and the structure we set up was to test our players before the tournament and that was the done a long time ago. Unfortunately two players have fallen foul of it. I certainly won't accept the blame from the medical side. We have a structure and it has proved good for cricket.

Himanshu Singhal: What kind of impact this controversy will have on the Pakistan cricket team?

Bob Woolmer: I hope none whatsoever. I think we will make a good impact and play good cricket. We hope to be successful when we play and that is all we are working to do.
