Yuvi the hitter, takes on litter

Gurgaon: If you think the country's cricketers are enjoying all the comforts of life, then you are wrong as star batsman Yuvraj Singh was seen protesting against illegal dumping of garbage at DLF City here on Monday.

Yuvi, a resident of F-Block at the DLF City here, batted for the cause of his neighbours who were, for long agitated over dumping of garbage at the Gurgaon-Faridabad road.

"The authorities should respond positively to the request of such a large number of residents and stop this illegal activity immediately," the cricketer said.

The sportsman in Yuvraj also hoped that clean roads would inculcate a sporting culture among the youth, prompting them to choose for jogging and cycling.

The garbage site, spread over 60 acres near the prime posh phase-1 of DLF City, is a protected forest land, hence dumping is an illegal activity, claimed resident Ambika Aggarwal.

Civic agencies -- Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) -- and private developers are dumping more than 325 tonnes (100 trucks) of garbage daily for the last two years, lamented Aggarwal.

Incidents of dengue and respiratory complaints have added to their worries. Previously, a similar protest was organised on August 24.

Meanwhile, HUDA administrator G Anupama said the grievance would be addressed with the opening of high-tech waste management facility in Bhandwari village next year.
