16. Namakkal is a Lok Sabha / Parliamentary constituency in West Tamil Nadu region of Tamil Nadu in South India. This semi-urban general constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 20.16% and a Scheduled Tribe population of 3.3%. The estimated literacy level of Namakkal is 73.37%. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were a total of eligible electors and the voter turnout was calculated at %. The seat went to the polls on Phase 2 on Thursday, April 18, 2019.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sundaram P R of AIADMK won in this seat by defeating the DMK candidate by a margin of 2,94,374 votes which was 27.80% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK had a vote share of 53.20% in 2014 in the seat. There were a total of 26 contestants in 2014.

In 2009, Gandhiselvan S of DMK emerged victorious in this seat by defeating the ADMK candidate by a margin of 1,02,431 votes which was 12.10% of the total votes polled. DMK had a vote share of 43.89% in 2019, in the constituency. There were 25 contestants in 2009.

The voter turnout in the 2014 Parliamentary polls in the seat was 79.73% and in 2009, the constituency registered 78.7% turnout during polling.

As of December 2018, the Member of Parliament from Namakkal was: P R Sundaram (AIADMK) . The 2019 Lok Sabha election results are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
