In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, C Gopalakrishnan of AIADMK won in this seat by defeating the DMK candidate by a margin of 1,04,940 votes which was 11.25% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK had a vote share of 49.70% in 2014 in the seat. There were a total of 10 contestants in 2014.
In 2009, Raja A of DMK emerged victorious in this seat by defeating the MDMK candidate by a margin of 86,021 votes which was 12.11% of the total votes polled. DMK had a vote share of 44.61% in 2019, in the constituency. There were 14 contestants in 2009.
The voter turnout in the 2014 Parliamentary polls in the seat was 73.55% and in 2009, the constituency registered 70.79% turnout during polling.
