Volvo is all set to launch its much-awaited premium SUV XC60 in India in today. Resembling to its larger sibling, XC90, the new car carries a premium touch on exterior design and interior cossetting. The new XC60 SUV is said to be the safest car to be launched in India this year.

From the front, the car looks desirable and gets the same fascia as rest of the Volvo cars, including the thor hammer headlights and 23 slat vertical chrome grille. The side section gets the large and clean 19 inch alloys along with distinctive D pillar. Overall, the Volvo XC60 looks like a perfect urban friendly SUV and not a large SUV.

Powered by 2.0-litre D5 diesel unit, the new Volvo XC60 churns out 235hp. The engine is mated to the eight-speed automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive as standard. It is expected that Volvo will soon introduce T6 petrol and T8 twin petrol-hybrid engine options for the new XC60 SUV.

Inside the cabin, the new Volvo XC60 comes with Nappa leather upholstery, heads-up display and Bowers and Wilkins audio system. 360 parking, semi-automatic parking, adaptive cruise control, auto hold function are some of the features that XC 60 offers. The rear seat passengers get their own touch-based system for Ac control. The seats can be electronically folded to add space to the already spacious boot space that gets an electronically controlled tailgate.

The new car offers the complete suite of active safety and semi-autonomous drive systems that are available on the much larger Volvo XC90 and S90 sedan including run-off-road mitigation, large animal, cyclist and pedestrian detection systems, autonomous braking, plus Pilot Assist. When activated this system can steer, accelerate and slow the car automatically, in line with traffic conditions, on well-marked roads at speeds of up to 130 km/h.

The new Volvo XC60 will be assembled at Volvo’s Bengaluru plant and is expected to be priced around Rs 55 lakh. In this price segment, the XC60 will directly stack up against Audi Q5, BMW X3, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Mercedes GLC.
