Jeep has started the production of its Compass compact SUV locally in India at its Ranjangaon based facility near Pune. The Jeep Compass produced here will not only serve the Indian buyers, but will also be exported to all the right-hand drive countries from here.
Hence, Jeep needs the Compass to succeed in India and everything will depend on the correct pricing of the SUV. We have learned through our sources in a Jeep dealership that the American company is planning to launch the Compass late in June, 2017.
The dealer source has also confirmed that Jeep will price the Compass around Rs 18 lakhs (Ex-showroom), for the base variant. Kevin Flynn, President and MD at Fiat-Chrysler India has confirmed that the SUV is a C-Segment SUV, hinting out at the price range.
Jeep will be launching the Compass only in the manual diesel version to start the sales of the Compass, followed by an automatic variant. The Compass will be offered in three variants – Sport, Longitude and Limited and the customers will have 50 trim configurations to buy it according to the taste.
Jeep has already started accepting the booking of the Compass at a sum of Rs 1 Lakh and it will join the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee in the product line-up and the shipping to the RHD markets will begin from last quarter of 2017.
Jeep Compass will compete against the Hyundai Tucson when launched in India.
