New Delhi: The first edition of News18.com Tech and Auto Awards is set to be held in New Delhi today with the best from the two industries competing across 16 categories. Union minister for electronics and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad will be giving the awards to the winners at a gala event this evening.

Hours before the final jury round this afternoon, Union minister for road, transport, highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari issued an exclusive video message to congratulate the nominees and called for innovation and collaborations, particularly in electric vehicles space.

Before the mega jury round, where the doyens of the industry will be voting for their favorite gadgets and cars, a popular voting was held on News18.com where thousands of people voted across categories. In some of the sections, the difference between competing gadgets and cars was less than 100 despite above-10,000 votes, making it a nail-biting finish and leaving the jury with touch choices.

Auto and tech sectors have eights award categories each. The tech categories are Smartphone of the year, Indian consumer app of the year, Tech personality of the year, Affordable smartphone of the year, Dual camera smartphone of the year, Design of the year, Selfie smartphone of the year and Editor’s choice gadget of the year.

Under auto section, awards like Car of the year, Two-wheeler of the year, Sedan of the year, Hatchback of the year, SUV of the year, Luxury car of the year, Design of the year and Performance car of the year are seeing battle among the best.

The nominations were considered for products that were launched between 1 November 2016 and 31 October 2017.

Audience voting carries 40% weightage and now it’s over to the eminent jury to decide the winner among the most favorite gizmos and vehicles.
