Maruti Suzuki recalls 69,555 cars in India

The recalled vehicles include 12,486 units of the Swift, 1,131 units of the Ritz and 55,938 units of the Dzire.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is recalling 69,555 cars for inspecting and repairing the wiring harness. The recalled vehicles include 12,486 units of the Swift, 1,131 units of the Ritz and 55,938 units of the Dzire, manufactured between March 8, 2010 and August 11, 2013.

These vehicles were only sold in the local market and were not part of the export lineup from Maruti.

No other models have been affected, it said in a statement.

MSIL will contact customers to get them to bring their vehicles to technicians for an inspection of the wiring harness. If found defective, these will be replaced free of cost.

Maruti says the possibility of the problem occurring was found based on feedback from regular monitoring and internal checks.

Maruti said its dealers would get in touch with owners of the affected vehicles, and if needed would fix the problem for free.

While India does not have a standard recall code, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, an industry body, introduced a voluntary recall code in 2012 which directs car makers to inform customers about any issues that would compromise their safety and fix it free of cost.
