2018 was undoubtedly one of the best year in the Royal Enfield’s history as the company touched new sales milestone in various markets but as the year came to an end, the two-wheeler division of Eicher Motors started to face a sales dip in India and one of the major factor for the drop in sales is the rise in the competition with the recent launch of Jawa motorcycles in India. The Iconic Jawa Motorcycle brand finally re-entered India and launched the new 300cc motorcycles. The Jawa prices start at Rs 1.55 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) which directly stacks up against the Royal Enfield Classic 350.

As per the recent reports, Jawa and Jawa 42 motorcycles are sold out till September 2019 and the result can be clearly seen in Royal Enfield’s sales report. In November 2018, Royal Enfield reported a six percent drop in sales to 65,744 as compared to 70,126 bikes in November 2017. In December 2018, the company reported a 13% decline in total sales to 58,278 units. It sold 66,968 units in the same month last year.

Surprisingly, Royal Enfield’s International sales rose by 41 percent to 2,252 units in December, compared with 1,601 units in the same month previous year and that is mainly due the launch of the new 650 Twins. Royal Enfield is targeting the international buyers with the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 and they have been quite successful in that. The bikes are also expected to do good in the Indian market due its price, performance and obviously the legacy of Royal Enfield.
