Jaipur: Popular author Chetan Bhagat on Sunday spoke about his stint in Bollywood, and the amount of research and effort he had to put into his work.

Bhagat, who had written the script for the Salman Khan blockbuster 'Kick' along with filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala, spoke about the difference between writing a novel, and working on a script.

"Before adapting the Telugu film 'Kick' for Bollywood, I saw it 27 times. Needed to get to know the characters well," said Bhagat at a session during the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival.

"In the Telugu film, the female lead played by Ileana D'Cruz has no profession. But while adapting it for Bollywood, I made sure that Jacqueline Fernandez had one. I don't want women to think that their live is supposed to revolve around a man," explained Bhagat.

When asked what he preferred -- Bollywood or writing books -- Bhagat quipped: "Books are the love of my life; but Bollywood is my 'Half Girlfriend'!"
