The Shivamogga police have arrested three persons from here on terror charges, claiming they wanted to advance the activities of the banned Islamic State (IS). The gang members were in possession of explosives and planned to carry out blasts across the state, the police alleged. The police registered a case on its own against Shariq, Maazi and Syed Yasin who hail from Shivamogga under various sections of the IPC and under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Prisoners in Punjab can now spend some time with their spouses as the prisons department has begun conjugal visits for inmates from Tuesday, claiming to be the first state to launch such a facility. Initially, conjugal visits will be allowed at the central jail in Goindwal Sahib, new district jail in Nabha and women’s jail in Bathinda, a senior official of the prisons department said.
Hardcore criminals, gangsters, high risk prisoners and inmates involved in sexual related offences will, however, not be allowed to avail this facility. READ MORE
The Sri Lankan Navy has apprehended 8 Indian fishermen from near here, for alleged maritime boundary violation, officials said on Tuesday. The fishermen hailed from Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu. They were picked up by the Lankan Navy for allegedly fishing in that country’s waters between Mullaitheevu and Neduntheevu late on Monday, Fisheries officials said.

INS Ajay was decommissioned on Monday after 32 years of service. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Rajiv Kumar, has written a letter to the law ministry to cap the cash donations to political parties. In his letter to Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, the CEC proposed to cap cash donation at 20 percent or at Rs 20 crore whichever is lower. He also proposed bringing down anonymous political donations from Rs 20,000 to Rs 2,000 to cleanse election funding of black money.
