Army chief General Bipin Rawat's comments on women in combat roles and their ability to lead troops have not gone down well on social media.

In an exclusive interview with News18, Rawat had given reasons like women have the responsibility of raising kids and a woman officer would feel uncomfortable at the frontline and accuse jawans of peeping as she changes clothes to explain why they can't be given combat roles.

Rawat said that while he was ready to introduce women to combat roles, the Army may not be as most jawans come from villages and they may not accept a woman officer leading them.

Twitterati thought Rawat's remarks were both controversial and sexist, and even called him an 'embarrassment' for the country.

People aren't also too happy that he is still in this position to be making these statements and want him to resign.
