Even as Ayodhya turned into a fortress on the 26th anniversary of Babri masjid demolition, Haryana minister Anil Vij made yet another controversial statement, this time targeting Babr.

In a tweet, the Haryana health minister who has a history of making controversial comments claimed that Babur had not followed any law and order when he had demolished the Hindu temple and built a mosque in its place. He could do so because then he was in power.

The minister asserted that when the 'Ram-bhakts were in power, they demolished the mosque. He added that half the job was done, the day Ram-bhakts' get more power, they will finish the task and build the temple, hence settling the score.

This is not the first time that the minister has made controversial comments. In October 2017, Vij had tweeted that the Taj Mahal was nothing but a 'beautiful graveyard'. The comment went viral, coming as it was just a week after BJP MLA Sardhana Sangeet Som said that the Taj Mahal was a blot on India's culture.

Back in June last year, Vij had set off many with his comments that Hindus can never be terrorists. "A Hindu can never be a terrorist, and there can never be a terminology such as Hindu terrorism," he had told reporters which launching an attack on the Congress party.

He also came down strongly on cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu after he went to attend Pakistan PM Imran Khan's oath-taking ceremony. Vij termed Sidhu's participation in the ceremony as an "act of disloyalty" towards India which "will not be endorsed by any patriotic citizen" of the country.

While the minister is a popular figure on social media, many on Twitter have responded harshly to the tweet, claiming that these issues were driving attention away from real problems of the people.

Meanwhile, the situation is tense in Ayodhya. Over 2,500 police personnel, along with rapid action force and paramilitary CRPF, have been deployed. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have declared to observe the day as 'Shaurya Diwas'. The Muslim outfits have said they will observe the day of sorrow and a black day. The civil police along with CRPF and RAF have been deployed on roads and sensitive localities. On Wednesday, police arrested four activists of one Hindu Samaj Party from the Ram temple site. VHP has planned to organise a number of religious events so that a grand Ram temple is built on the site.
