Anonymous graffiti artist Banksy has left his mark in the Welsh steel town of Port Talbot, with a new piece that seems to reference the industry.

The appearance of the artwork earlier in the week led people to speculate it might be the work of Banksy, and on Wednesday he confirmed the same.

. . . . Season’s greetings . . .

A post shared by Banksy (@banksy) on

Posting on a verified Instagram account, Banksy shared a video of the artwork, with the caption: "Season's greetings".

The piece is painted over two garage walls. On one is a child, arms outstretched and sledge at his feet, in the midst of a snow storm. Turning the corner, the second wall reveals the 'snow' to be ash, billowing from an incinerator.

Earlier in the year, Port Talbot made headlines when the World Health Organisation (WHO) erroneously listed it as the most polluted town in the UK. WHO later corrected the figures in its Ambient Air Quality Database, which now reflects that Port Talbot's air quality falls within levels deemed safe by the British government.

Speaking of mistakes, earlier in the year, Banksy admitted that one of his biggest pranks yet didn't really go according to plan. The British street artist created an art world sensation by sending one of his paintings through a shredder hidden in a frame moments after it sold at auction for £1,042,000 ($1.4 million, 1.2 million euros).

Experts say the 'Girl with Balloon' is now probably worth even more because the stunt created a media stir that made many reassess their understanding of performance art. But there was always a nagging question: Why did only half the painting slip through the frame?

The secretive artist admitted on a video posted on his Instagram account this week that the real answer was much simpler. The painting got stuck.
