The first poster of the much-awaited biopic based on celebrated badminton star Saina Nehwal was dropped on social media on Tuesday. Since then, Twitterati have noticed a 'tennis serve' in the now-viral poster.

If you happen to be late to the party, the poster of the upcoming Bollywood biopic Saina based on celebrated badminton star Saina Nehwal hasn’t been received well by fans on social media. Saina stars actress Parineeti Chopra who will be portraying the journey of Nehwal in the much-awaited movie. The film is slated to hit the theatres on March 26. Directed by Amole Gupte, the film also stars Paresh Rawal and Manav Kaul, alongside Chopra. The poster that has been the talk of the town shows a hand reaching out for the birdie or the shuttlecock which uses the word “Saina” instead of the conventional feathers– a detail that was hailed by fans on social media.

However, what didn’t work with those who came across the poster was that it seemingly “depicted” tennis serve rather than the person serving the shuttlecock below their waist, which is the norm in the sport of badminton.

Since then, Saina‘s poster has been a subject of ridicule on the microblogging site Twitter. Many users wondered if the makers confused Saina Nehwal for Sania Mirza while others mocked the designer for allegedly mixing up the two sports.

Amid all the social media trolling and memes, a tweet by user @shreemiverma comparing Saina poster to that scene from David Dhawan’s Haseena Maan Jaayegi has gone viral across the platform. Captioned “same energy” the tweet has been shared nearly 900 times.

The tweet features an old, viral question from a Quora user who, several years ago, had asked the community as to why Bollywood doesn’t make movies such as Inception.

The answer to which features a still from Haseena Maan Jaayegi where Karisma Kapoor can be seen playing basketball on a golf course with a football while donning tennis gear.

Did Saina take the creative liberty as is the case in countless Bollywood movies? We do not know. What we do know is a simple poster has sent the desi Internet in a frenzy.

In a blog post laying down the basic rules and regulations of badminton, Decathalon noted that if a person were to serve overarm, the serve would be considered a “fault”.

“The serve should always be done underarm and below the server’s waist. An overarm serve is against the basic rules of badminton, and would be considered a fault.”
