Grand romantic gestures are usually a foolproof way to get back the person of your dreams, if the horde of rom-com movies have taught us anything. Build her a house with your bare hands (The Notebook) or give them the library-castle of their dreams (Beauty and the Beast, the list could go on and on. But unfortunately, there is no clear happily ever after in real life as for one man’s grand romantic gesture didn’t help him win the girl back but ended up being his most successful failures of all time. The man’s grand gesture is now a popular tourist attraction for couples in Hetou village, Yingde city, of Guangdong province in south China. Identified by most only as Xu, this 30-year-old man in China built a whole private island to woo his ex-girlfriend. He reportedly spent his entire life savings on this project. As seen in the pictures, the place looks like a pink-paradise.
But a little backstory first. Xu was deeply in love but the relationship broke apart when Xu moved to the countryside to care for his elderly parents. The unnamed girlfriend stayed back in the city.
Xu, like Noah from the Notebook, began working on creating this love-island. A bridge from the land leads up to the island. The island itself is covered entirely in pink—from flowers to cherry and peach trees to inanimate décor items and even grass—it’s all pink and lovely. There’s a swing and even a heart-shaped pebble path. He spent around a hundred thousand yuan (INR 11,16,424) on the magical island.
When the girlfriend was presented with this gift, she said, “Thank you for your sincere dedication. You will find someone better than me.” However, Xu doesn’t have any regrets. His creation is now visited by couples from all over. it has been used for wedding photoshoots and proposals. Even though his love-story didn’t work out, his efforts will help other lovers’ dream come true.
“I am a Pisces so I am a romantic person,” he was quoted by LADBible.
