Chinky, Momo, Nepali, Bahadur, Chowmein etc. These are some of the many many hurtful names that students, who come to Delhi University from the North-East, are subjected to. And it doesn't end at the name-calling. They are harassed, slut-shamed, laughed at and without any reason made fun of.

Why does this hate exist? Is it because of the way they look, or how they dress, or their difficulty in speaking or understanding Hindi? None of the reasons make sense. They too are Indians, like any of us. They too deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We have no right to call them 'Chinese'.

'Old Delhi Films' has come out with a video called 'The Other Indians' where students from the North-East speak out about this obvious racism. While they feel proud to be a part of the Delhi University, they have nothing close to that feeling, when it comes to the people of Delhi. And all this because we ostracize them because of their looks and accent.

The video sends a powerful message and it is something everyone should watch. We should watch because we need to feel ashamed. We should watch because things have got to change. Let us end this stupid discrimination.
