Unpopular opinions have become quite the thing recently on social media. Taking a stand against popular point-of-views have thrown open conversations among strangers that range from food to music to shows to just about everything. So, whether you find Coldplay overrated or Idli in itself bland to eat on its own, there’s a place for you to keep it out in the open. Or is there? As with opinions, countering comments are aplenty and social media has been having a gala time carrying on the trend. A recent Twitter thread has kickstarted a similar such string of unpopular opinions and turns out, users have a lot that falls under its ambit, or at least is controversial.
A Twitter user @itsdhruvism came up with the thread. Posting the very popular scene grab from the wildly popular sitcom Friends, he urged users to drop in their unpopular opinions.
The first one after it was from a user who called the show Friends overrated. The user’s opinion was however countered by a Friends fan again, who called out the user’s “poor sense of humor” due to which the person can’t get jokes. Burn right there!
A person who dosent find friends or seinfeld funny dosent know what humor is— Nehru_who ™ (@Nehru_Whoo) March 15, 2021
The next one was on former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Dhoni fans certainly needed all of their cricket armour to brave this one. The user wrote, “Dhoni did nothing after 2011 world cup besides making rohit sharma an opener and after 2014 he even forgot to hold bat properly.”Oohh!
Dhoni did nothing after 2011 world cup besides making rohit sharma an opener and after 2014 he even forgot to hold bat properly, did nothing.— Kullu Kaali (@KulluKaali_) March 15, 2021
Someone posted statistics of the Ranchi-born cricketer below that.
We inched towards some emotional (read love and food) opinions after this.
Love is overrated. Rajma is overrated.— TimeTraveler’s Life (@Icarus_Reloaded) March 15, 2021
Desi weddings are overrated? One user definitely thinks so.
Lavish weddings are overrated and depressing for the groom, bride and their parents.— Iyeronical (@LosingMotion) March 15, 2021
One user, however came up with a practical comment to negate the opinion and we do agree about it.
Provide lots of employment though.— Gargi (@gargidhote) March 15, 2021
Another one in line was Paani-puri as one user called it overrated.
Pani Puri is the most overrated & the most unnecessarily hyped item of the Chaat world.Dahi Puri >>>> Pani Puri.— X Æ A-12 Cov-19 (@k0ol1) March 15, 2021
The Aamir Khan-Salman Khan comedy Andaz Apna Apna was next.
Wait… what?I understand this movie didn't age at all… unlike the "Superhits" of the 90s/ 2000s which look too creepy and cringey now.

In between all the movies and food criticism, one user came up with her love for belted watches.
Black strap leather watches are unique ,u wear it when u are in highschool & then u forget about it & then accidentally discover in ur adulthood & then no going back ,they are classy , exquisite ,poignant & matchless ,fight me— Skin Doctor (@itchymissy) March 15, 2021
A few of the recurring unpopular opinions were pani-puri and chaat in general. And several of the fun opinions then came in torrents. From calling Maggi and biryani overrated to calling aloo bhujia overrated, the opinions were wide and varied. Then it was the wildly popular HBO fanatsy show Game of Thrones. The user called the show Hollywood’s Chandrakanta. (We might not believe it, but we sure are ready to reimagine it!)
The thread in its entirety was a hilarious one, but some of the best ones had to be the ones about food. While one said ‘there should be no medu vada in any of the south indian restaurants’, another said they loved Karela(bitter gourd) and chili. That’s a red hot unpopular opinion right there.
The trend has picked up not only on Twitter, but on Facebook too. Often users have even started posting random unpopular opinions anywhere where this particular snap from Friends is seen, resulting in hilarious replies between random users.
