Irate Egyptian authorities have initiated an investigation against a Danish photographer who allegedly filmed himself climbing the Great Pyramid at Giza in the company of a woman, whom he later ended up photographing nude in front of the ancient monument.
Andreas Hvid uploaded the redacted video on Youtube and claimed that the pair had spent "several hours sneaking around at the Giza plateau" during the last week of November this year.
He also posted an explicit picture of a naked man embracing an equally denuded female friend on top of the storied monument, which was built more than 4,500 years ago.
According to the Independent, Hvid's promotional stunt sparked outrage on Egyptian social media, even while officials initially claimed that the footage was fake, because such an act was impossible due to the heavy security at the site. It has also been noted that the area around the pyramids appeared over illuminated lit in the video, which was posted on December 8, and had close to a million views at the time of this writing.

@bellingcat Anyone in your team checking on this video of #Danish couple posing nude on the #Giza #pyramid? Some Ashraf Mohi, director general of the Giza Plateau, says it's fake.— Hot Topics on Earth (@HotInfoAgent1) December 8, 2018
Hvid also has his own website as well as an Instagram handle, on which he has posted the 'offending' picture, where he notes his interest in urban exploration, nude art and travel stuff, something clearly recflected in the pictures he, presumably, takes himself and uploads.
According to the country's Al-Ahram newspaper, on Sunday, the minister of antiquities, Khaled El-Anany, informed MPs that he had filed a memo with Egypt's prosecutor-general to investigate the incident.
He reportedly stated that prosecutors would investigate ”how a Danish photographer and his girlfriend were able to scale the Pyramid of Khufu, and whether they really filmed an explicit pornographic video atop the Pyramid”.
The video was posted on YouTube with a description reading, “In late November 2018, a friend and I climbed the Great Pyramid of Giza (aka Pyramid of Khufu, Pyramid of Cheops). Fearing to be spotted by the many guards, I did not film the several hours of sneaking around at the Giza Plateau, which lead up to the climb.”
