As if the internet was not already divided over pineapple on pizza, Jamie Oliver’s latest take on pizza with grapes as a topping on the Italian dish has brought in new arguments to the debate. Last week on BBC’s Channel Four, the British chef introduced his viewers to a new recipe of a speedy sausage pizza with grapes as one of its toppings. The recipe for the pizza starts with the basics of kneading the dough and leaving it to rise. He then moves on to show how he prepares the special pizza topping as he fries the sausage meatballs in olive oil, pinenuts, and red onion. And then comes the controversial secret ingredient: green grapes. Jamie puts some green and red grapes into the pan and fries it along with the rest of the ingredients.
The celebrity chef then prepares the pizza base as he rolls out the dough in an oval shape and spreads some sundried tomato pesto on it. He then takes the pan off the flame and puts the topping of sausage meat, onion, pinenuts, and grapes on top of it. As Jamie spreads the pizza toppings, his son tells him that he is quite excited to try grapes as a pizza topping. To this Jamie replies that he is relieved that his son is excited because he was worried that he would not like it. Jamie explains that the sweetness of Grapes along with rosemary as garnishing would really enhance the flavours of pizza. The pizza then goes for baking and a few minutes later, out comes the pizza topped with baked grapes among other things. Jamie excitedly eats the first slice and calls it a game-changing combination.
