The incident happened in the second over of India's innings when Stuart Broad found Shubman Gill’s edge, the ball flying low to the second slip where Ben Stokes was stationed.

England star Ben Stokes found himself in a social media storm on the first day of the ongoing Third Test between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The incident happened in the second over of India’s innings when Stuart Broad found Shubman Gill’s edge, the ball flying low to second slip. The on-field umpire gave the soft signal as out, but replays quickly showed Stokes had not caught it cleanly, thus giving Gill a reprieve. Third umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin, convinced after a couple of replays that Stokes had dropped the catch, overturned the soft signal.

This left the English side frustrated as skipper Joe Root and Broad looked unhappy with the decision. On the contrary, Stokes laughed sarcastically after the decision reversal, which resulted in a lot of chatter on social media.

But people didn’t stop at that. Several memes and jokes were cracked at the expense of Stokes.
