Being the most populated country in the world, it comes as no surprise that India has to ensure the availability of water to each and every citizen of the country. It may be a basic necessity, but nearly 75 percent of households in India do not have drinking water on their premises.
Hence, conserving water becomes even more important for us. There is only a limited amount of water available on Earth and to protect it for safe consumption is a responsibility of us all. Water conservation promotes using a limited amount of the resource supply. With a little awareness of how to conserve water and using it properly, each one of us can make our contribution. It is not a job that can be left on scientists or environmentalists but it is a collective responsibility, since each one of us depends on water to go on with our lives.
Here are a few ways in which water conservation can create a global impact:
If people and societies come together with a single goal of saving the limited resources of water, we can reduce the effects of droughts and water shortages.
With overpopulation and over usage of water in industries,it is not assured that water will always be available forever. Although, water eventually returns to the Earth through the water cycle, it does not always return to the same spot, or in the same quantity and quality. Hence, using minimal amounts of water and by ensuring smart usage of the resource, we can make sure that on tough days, water is available.
Another benefit of saving water is that it might help the environment as well. By reducing our water consumption, we can help reduce the energy and the fuel spent in processing and delivering it to homes, businesses, farms, and communities. This, in turn, helps in reducing pollution and conserving fossil fuel resources.
By reducing wasteful water consumption, we are also contributing to our society and services like firefighters, hospitals and more.
For making such efforts and many more, News18 has collaborated with Harpic India for the Mission Paani initiative, which is an attempt to encourage people towards intelligent use of water.
