In case you missed it

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sought to blunt Congress’ vociferous attack on the Rafale fighter jets deal, saying the previous UPA government took India’s security lightly despite growing challenges from China and Pakistan. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said Congress believed in doing “defence dealings” while the Narendra Modi government was “dealing in defence” to maintain India’s security.

Rebutting Sitharaman's speech, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that the Defence Minister gave a long speech in Parliament but did not answer any of his posers on the Rafale deal and instead "ran away". "I asked that after a long negotiation process, those people who participated in that negotiations -- Air Force chief, defence minister, secretaries, Air Force officials -- when the prime minister did a 'bypass surgery'... did the Air Force people object, yes or know," Gandhi said.

Despite widespread protests in Assam and concerns voiced by BJP's ally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the government will move ahead with the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and hopes to get it passed in the Parliament soon.

Actor Vivek Oberoi has been roped in to play Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the latter's biopic, titled PM Narendra Modi. The film, to be directed by Omung Kumar who has previously helmed hit biographical dramas like Sarbjit and Mary Kom, will go on floors in mid-January.

Agree or Disagree?

It was just yesterday when 'woke' Congress MP Shashi Tharoor introduced a private members’ bill in the Lok Sabha to make marital rape a crime. But ask him about Sabarimala, and he will say, "We are in favour of women empowerment... but women's entry was a provocative act." Adrija Bose calls out on hypocrisy.

If 'Untouchability' at Sabarimala makes you angry, then welcome to the world of Dalit women. This may be a golden day for some women (mostly savarna women), but it is certainly a black day for those who are still fighting caste and untouchability. Vijeta Kumar writes how the entry of savarna women into Sabarimala may be a win for some women but not all.

The historic entry of two women devotees at the Lord Ayyappa shrine in Sabarimala on Wednesday marked the first time any woman entered the shrine since the Supreme Court's verdict allowing women to enter. However, the celebrations were marred by the death of a man protesting their entry and the temple shutting down for "purification" ritual post their entry.
