Parents say son committed suicide after being 'mercilessly bullied' over a masturbation video that went viral

14-year-old Matthew Burdette committed suicide after being bullied over his humiliating video that went viral.

14-year-old Matthew Burdette committed suicide after being 'mercilessly bullied' over a video of him masturbating that went viral, say his parents. Timothy and Barbara Burdette filed a million dollar claim against the San Diego School District. According to the parents, the school authorities knew how their son was being bullied but did nothing to protect him.

The video went viral after one of the students in school made a video and shared it on Snapchat and Vine. After two weeks of being bullied, Matthew decided to take away his life and wrote a note saying he could not handle school and was left with no friends.

'Matthew took his life as a result of the embarrassment and humiliation caused by bullying related to the video and its distribution,' the claim said.

The school authorities have however, maintained that they adhere to privacy and confidentiality laws and regulations related to students and did not provide any details about Matthew's death. The San Diego district attorney's office said a hearing was scheduled for July 23.
