On the occasion of Indira Gandhi's 97th birth anniversary, here's a glimpse into her life through pictures.

The only child of Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamla Nehru, Indira Gandhi became the third Prime Minister of India and one of the most popular ones till date. She served as the Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 to 1984, when she was assassinated.As a child, Indira Gandhi was closely followed every activity of her father Jawaharlal Nehru. During her tenure as the PM, she was known for her political ruthlessness and centralisation of power. She went to war with Pakistan and presided over a state of emergency from 1975 to 1977.In the aftermath of the unfortunate Operation Blue Star, she was assassinated in 1984.
