Adriana Bertini is a Brazilian 'artivist' who makes dresses out of condoms to raise awareness about safe sex.

Adriana Bertini is an 'artivist' (artist + activist) famous for her making fashionable dresses made of defective condoms! Bertini is a Brazilian artist who makes these dresses to raise awareness about the use of condoms and hopes her efforts will prevent HIV/AIDS in future.Using latex from condoms that fail quality control, Adriana Bertini uses 'funtional' art to reach people in a direct way. If you spot someone wearing a dress made of condoms or cushion at someone's house with a cover made of condoms, you would definitely enter a dialogue with them and that's how she aims to spread awareness about safe sex.On her website, Bertini's description says: "She transforms into art and awareness the material that would be destined to incineration (that pollutes the environment due to the high levels of sulfur) or common litter because the material is not bio degrading.Creatively preserving man's individuality, her work has the objective of wide spreading the use of the condom in the manner of art, creating a new form of thinking in the people in order that they become aware of the reality in situations of risk in the face of HIV. How can we alert people against the danger of pleasure without advocating self-denial, which we know is impossible? Adriana Bertini utilizes painting techniques, collage, sculpturing and dying to give life to her pieces."She has also used condoms to make faces of people who died of AIDS as well as for creating images of famous people who have spread a strong message about social issues in the past, such as Nelson Mandela, Bono Vox, and various Brazilian activists. This series is called "Still Without a Name".
