Body-shaming is something that happens around us all the time. We judge people on the basis of what they look like, how much they weigh, how weird their eyes or ears or nose looks like etc. But no where is this more prevalent than in the entertainment industry.
Richa Chadha, at a recent TED Talk spoke about eating disorders and body shaming. She talked about the kind of pressures the entertainment industry puts on you, in terms of what you should look like. She said that before she moved to Mumbai, she had never had any self-doubts about her looks, but post her move, she was subjected to a lot of things that made her somewhat unsure of her body.
She spoke about the prevalence of eating disorders like Bulimia in the film industry. Bulimia nervosa, also known as simply bulimia, is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating followed by purging either by voluntarily vomiting or using laxatives.
