In a city with a population of 63.2 lakhs, an unfortunate robber happened to attack a woman who turned out to be an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter.
Polyana Viana, who is a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighter, was waiting for her Uber in front of her apartment complex in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro, when a man slid up to her and asked her for the time. After she told him the time and he still wouldn't leave, she grew wary.
Then the man started threatening. "Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed," he said and pointed at what seemed to be a gun on his person.
A scared Viana's fight or flight instinct kicked in. She thought that if she acted quickly, maybe the robber will not have time to wield his weapon.
So she threw two quick punches and a kick at the robber. When he fell, she locked his head and neck in a rear-naked choke, and then sat him down in the same spot., asking passersby to help her call the police.
At the police station the professional fighter realized that the robber had been trying to scare her with a fake gun made of cardboard. In fact, the man had until recently been in police custody for a previous conviction.
UFC president, Dana White posted an Instagram photo of the man and his injuries.
Viana is known by her nickname - "The Iron Lady,” in MMA circles. Well, this robber clearly messed with the wrong lady.
