Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi broke the good news of his daughter getting engaged to pacer Shaheen Afridi in a tweet on Sunday. “Shaheen’s family approached my family for my daughter. Both families are in touch, matches are made in heaven, if Allah wills this match will be made too. My prayers are with Shaheen for his continued success on and off the field,” Afridi wrote on his Twitter page stating that Shaheen’s family had made a formal approach asking for his daughter’s hand in marriage. As the news broke out on social media, fans from Pakistan expressed their surprise and congratulated the cricketers on their new partnership.
But you are here for the memes, right? Pakistani fans didn’t disappoint either. A video, since the happy announcement, has been going viral on social media since Sunday. It features Afridi facing the pacer Shaheen in a Pakistan Super League (PSL) contest back in 2018. The would-be father in law comes to face Shaheen and smacks him for a clean six on the first ball he faces for Karachi. Shaheen, playing for Lahore, returns to his mark and destroys Afridi’s stumps on the very next delivery. The instance became a talking point back then as Shaheen did not break into celebrations after picking up the wicket of veteran as a mark of respect.
Bringing a new twist to the video, however, a fan added the popular song from the Bollywood movie Dulhe Raja, the lyrics of which go like:
Suno sasurji, ab zidd choddo
Maan lo meri baat
Dulhan to jaayegi, dulhe raja ke saath
The video, for the right reasons, brought plenty of laughter on social media.
In case the song is stuck in your head, here’s the OG track:
Notably, both Afridi and Shaheen had recently featured in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), a tournament that was postponed due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.
