Take a few old paintings that belong to the middle ages, add a witty caption to it, and repeat this. Voila! You have in your hands something that has the potential to go viral just like that; at least on Twitter. It started with a Twitter handle called Medieval Reactions (@MedievalReacts). This account has close to 282,000 followers and it is a number that is steadily increasing. With captions mostly related to partying, sex, alcohol, clubbing and music, this twitter account proved to be an instant hit.

And then a few people decided to bring this concept to India. An account called @MedievalRxnsIN has been tweeting witty captions to old Rajput and Mughal paintings. And they didn’t stop there. They even picked up artworks of the revered Indian artist from the turn of the century Raja Ravi Varma, and they too are proving to be an instant hit.
From hit songs, to everyday situations, to pop-culture reference, they seem to have found a relevant old painting for everything.
