Update: An earlier version of this copy did not mention that the 'underwater shot' was not taken inside Bellandur lake, but shot at a friend's pool. The lake is known for its toxic froth and pollution is a health risk, and the actress did not enter it. The on-shore photos were taken by the side of the lake.

India is a country where pollution often runs unchecked owing to lax laws and there not being enough measures in place to counter it.

Every year, the air quality drops to severely hazardous in major cities like Delhi, and Bangalore's Bellandur lake, infamous for its water pollution, continues to froth up at regular intervals.

To raise awareness about this water pollution, South-Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna did an underwater photoshoot at Bellandur lake to raise awareness about water pollution.

The shoot was directed by Sanmathi D. Prasad. The actress took to Twitter to explain how she had no idea about the pollution, until she actually visited the lake, and then saw the gravity of the situation.

She appealed to her followers that perhaps this situation could be reversed. The entire photoshoot was supposed to be to raise awareness about the situation in this lake - which has a history of being in the news for its pollution.

Toxic froth routinely forms on the lake, and in recent times, the lake even caught fire. There have also been stories on just how much the lake has deteriorated through the years.
