'Dil Chahta Hai' is definitely one of those movies that has the potential to be called things like 'young' and 'fresh' for years and on. Even 15 years after the release of the movie, one can't not enjoy the many subtleties, one can't not get submerged in the subdued emotions of the characters, and one just can't not pretty much love the over all narrative.
Vinit Masram of the YouTube channel 'Cinema Beyond Entertainment' decided to present an analysis of 'Dil Chahta Hai'. Not only does he talk about the style of film-making used by Farhan Akhtar in his directorial debut, he also analyses the story arch, the characters and the overall tone of the film.
He takes his analysis to Freud's theory of Id, Ego and Superego, and how the 3 protagonists are the personification of each of these facets of our minds. The comparison is, for the lack of a better phrase, kind of mind-blowing.
Watch the analysis right here and feel a little awed at just how much thought went behind each of our favourite characters in the film. The next time you watch the movie, you will definitely notice these subtleties.
