We have all been through that painful experience of waiting for a train. Sometimes, the wait can extend for hours. So, what if we tell you, that you can actually do something productive during that wait? And no, we don’t mean reading a book or watching Netflix shows. You can actually create something without even knowing how to!

George Barratt-Jones, a student at the Student at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands has invented a self-powered machine that probably all of us need.

The machine lets you knit a scarf in just five minutes while you wait for your train. Named ‘Cyclo-Knitter’, the machine is a bicycle-powered tool that lets you peddle while your scarf knits itself – and bonus – it’s free!

In a video, Jones, the creator of the machine, talks about how the machine is designed to make people’s waiting at the train station more enjoyable. “The pedal powered machine gets you warm by moving, you are making something while you wait and in the end you are left with a free scarf! That you can decide to keep yourself or give to someone who needs it more,” he said.

Jones is also the founder of Craftz, a Dutch-language based learning website on woodwork, which provides both self-learning and workshops, and in addition to it, gives you the chance to be a teacher and host your own workshop.

Jones created the scarf-knitting machine in January. The project was initially designed for a college assignment.

It started with a simple idea.

“It’s all about spreading joy and making those boring moments more fun,” Jones said on Reddit, responding to questions from the users.
