While a lot of women face domestic violence in some form or the other, they never have the courage to speak up. When we say courage, it does not literally imply bravery but the fact that a woman's concern for her family, about society and other outdated and anachronistic traditions, stop her from coming out in the open.
At a time when a lot is being spoken about women safety, women empowerment, equal rights and representation for females, an advertisement titled 'Hair, the pride of a woman', posted in the form of a video on the Facebook page Best Ads, sheds light on the same issue.
The advertisement made by Jui - a domestic helpline - has been shot in Bengali and was first published on March 6 for International Women's Day. But recently, it was shared on Facebook and caught people's attention because of the strong and powerful message that it wanted to convey. And even though the language is something which not many will relate to, the message has been sent out loud and clear- women must speak up against domestice violence.
The video features a woman who enters a salon to get a haircut. And although the lead character has long and well-maintained hair, she insists that the stylist cut her hair short. In the end it is revealed that the reason behind the woman insisting on getting her hair cut extremely short was because she never wanted anybody to abuse her by holding her by the hair again.
The video has touched a lot of people and has gone viral on Facebook. It has garnered nearly 6 million views in just four days.
Take a look.
