Things don’t seem to be going too well for Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat who has made another grave factual error while speaking about India’s history. In a recent speech, Rawat said that “America enslaved India for 200 years.” Of course, that never happened. This comes in the aftermath of the controversy generated by his ripped jeans remark. Recently, he faced flak after he said that women are setting a “bad example” for society and leading to substance abuse by wearing ripped jeans. Speaking at an anti-substance abuse workshop organised by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun on Tuesday, Rawat said that ripped jeans are ‘bad examples’ set by parents.
On Sunday, Rawat addressed a programme in Nainital’s Ramnagar. The video of his speech is now going viral on social media. “As opposed to other countries, India is doing better in terms of handling the COVID-19 crisis. America, which enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the world, is struggling in current times,” he said.
He seems to have gotten confused between America and Britain. “America, which enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the whole world, is struggling” to control the coronavirus pandemic,” he added.

This is how Twitter reacted to it:
#TirathSinghRawat has been summoned by the annoyed Queen Elizabeth for spreading lies that USA ruled over India for 200 years . pic.twitter.com/PAhZ8kbRrJ— Ravinder Kapur (@RavinderKapur2) March 22, 2021

Meanwhile, the CM said he has tested positive for COVID-19. The chief minister took to Twitter to inform the people about his COVID-19 test report and said he has tested positive for the pandemic but he is alright and has no complications. He has isolated himself and is under the observation of doctors. Rawat also advised the people who had come into contact with him over the past few days to get themselves tested.
“My coronavirus test report has come out positive. I am alright and have no complications. I have isolated myself under the watch of doctors. Those who have come into contact with me over the past few days should take precaution and get themselves tested,” Rawat said in a tweet in Hindi.
