Have you ever been confused between dogs and wolves? The same happened with visitors who were surprised to see a rottweiler inside a wolf cage in the Xiangwushan Zoo in China’s Hubei Province. The clip is shared by one of the zoo visitors on social media. It has gone viral in no time and has created a buzz on social media. While it has been viewed over 800 times on Youtube, it also garnered tones of reactions from netizens.
A visitor asked the zoo officials to get the poor dog out of the cage in the comment section. Xu, a visitor who filmed the animal, informed a local news channel that he spoke to a zoo staff about the same and he replied that a wolf had lived in the cage earlier, however, it died of old age.
An employee of the zoo also told the local media that the dog, which had been kept inside the cage is a watchdog by the park and was only being kept there temporarily. However, he also hinted that the zoo had been facing a financial crunch as COVID-19 has affected the number of visitors who used to keep visiting the place. Their main source of income was the entry fee that they used to charge from the visitors. The zoo also keeps lions and tigers.
The clip has also sparked off a debate on the maintenance of animals inside the zoo.
As per the reports, the local forestry bureau has asked the zoo officials to remove the wolf sign leading to the enclosure. This is not the first time that something of this sort has happened. Earlier, a zoo in Egypt was reported to paint a donkey as a zebra making animal right activist enraged. In 2019, again, two donkeys were painted in black and white for a wedding in Cadiz.
