YouTube made an oopsie and they are determined to do better. Or at least that is what they say.

There are a thousand reasons why YouTube's yearly musical and cultural recap - YouTube Rewind 2018 got 11 million thumbs down under a week but the company has finally owned up to the debacle and promised to do a better job next time.

On December 13, irked content creators and fans from every corner of the Internet united to do the impossible. They gave a record number of dislikes to YouTube's own creation and helped beat Canadian pop star Justin Bieber's hated hit track, Baby, which had held the record for the most disliked video on the platform for eight years.

In a surprising chill response, the video-streaming website took to Twitter on Thursday to share the newest record they hold.

Acknowledging that they had really messed up 2018's Rewind, the website responded to all the hate they had received from netizens since the video was uploaded and how they were willing to do "better" next time.

"Thanks to the creators that took part in Rewind, and the community that responded. We hear what you're saying, and we want to make next year better for all of you. Watch this space!"

Internet being Internet didn't go too easy on YouTube. "Get rid of the late night show hosts, politics, ad/unreal friendly youtubers, and stop being safe. Take risks, if advertisers get upset tell them tough love because we didn’t want to see a business. We want a video platform for fun," responded one user.

Not all were critical of their response.

Did they deserve to get all that hate? Or was it really such a cringe-fest? Watch the rewind (if you haven't already) to decide for yourself.
