JEE Main 2021 | The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday commenced the first attempt of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2021. Candidates seeking admission to architecture and planning courses are appearing for JEE Main 2021 today.
A total of 7,15,692 aspirants have registered to appear for the Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) and B. Planning entrance tests in the first session. Most of the candidates, which is 6,70,332, have opted to appear for the JEE Main test in English, followed by Hindi, which saw 23,751 aspirants. An additional total of 21,609 candidates will appear for the examination in regional languages which include Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, among others.
Last year, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) had decided to hold the JEE Main 2021 in regional languages. The development is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which allows teaching in regional languages. The Education Ministry had also announced several changes in the JEE Main exam for this year, including conducting the exam four times in a year and allowing options.
The NTA has taken several measures and has implemented various precautionary steps to conduct the JEE Main 2021 exams amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation. Aspirants will have to carry a self-declared undertaking along with the JEE Admit Card, wear masks, carry hand sanitisers etc., to ensure everyone’s safety at the exam centre. Further, the agency has also ensured to employ several anti-cheating mechanisms in place. They include jammers, CCTV surveillance among others. The NTA has also made arrangements for live viewing at any remote location, including recording CCTV footage system of all exam centre’s from their centralised control room located in the national capital.
Candidates who clear the JEE Main will be eligible to seek admission to National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). The exam is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission to undergraduate programs offered by the IITs.
