The versatile forward has signed a loan contract until the end of the season.
The Giuseppe Meazza club were looking to sign a new attacker because of the departure of Samuel Eto'o to Anzhi Makhachkala and head coach Gian Piero Gasperini sees Zarate as the perfect fit for his 3-4-3 formation.
Zarate joined Lazio from Al Sadd in June 2008 and quickly became an important first-team player at the Romans.
However, he was no longer certain of a starting berth following the arrivals of Miroslav Klose and Djibril Cisse this summer and wanted to leave Lazio.
