Rome: Schalke winger Jefferson Farfan has defined their 5-2 victory over Inter in the Champions League on Tuesday evening as their best game in Europe this season.
The German side came from behind at San Siro to conjure up one of the biggest shocks of the season, as they destroyed the defending European champions in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
After the match Farfan admitted that they did not expect to win by such a big margin and told reporters: "We knew that it would be a difficult match and it was complicated further after the first goal of Inter after a few seconds.
“However, there was a great reaction from us and it was our best match in the Champions League this year. We expected a closed Inter, instead we found space and that helped.”
The 26-year-old Peruvian has been linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus in the summer, but for now he is focused only with Schalke.
“Juventus want me? I still have a one-year contract with Schalke and I just want to do well here,” said Farfan.
The second leg between Schalke and Inter take place in Germany on April 13.
