The Kochi team, co-owned by Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament has been named as "Kerala Blaster Football club".

Tendulkar will also be the goodwill ambassador of the National Games that will take place in Kerala early next year.

On the occasion, Tendulkar said that everyone knows that he grew up playing cricket, but very few people knew that he enjoyed playing other sports . "Many times at practice sessions of the Indian team and Mumbai Indians, while playing football, it becomes so competitive that they stop the match as they don't want players to get injured."

"In the 80's there were players from Kerala in the Indian Team as Kerala along with Kolkata was the home of football in India. We want to change the face of Indian Football, today there is no one from Kerala representing the Indian team," the batting maestro said.

He added that at school and college levels the students who play football should be highly encouraged.

Tendulkar said that as a Member of Parliament he has given a vision to the Human Resource Development Ministry. "I am going to meet again and will persist with that. I think that the results will be good and we all can be proud of it."

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that about 1.25 lakh students will be trained by the club.

Tendulkar also met the state opposition leader VS Achuthanandan and sought his support for the team.
